What Is Breast Augmentation
A breast augmentation (“boob job”) procedure, or mammoplasty, augments your breast size, texture and shape. Dr. Chernoff will discuss with you the various implants available and assist in selecting the one most suitable for you.
A mammoplasty shouldn’t be confused with a mastopexy (breast lift). A mastopexy corrects the breast position without altering size in any way. This technique can be utilized to uplift sagging breasts after breast-feeding, dieting or premature aging.

How Is A Breast Augmentation Performed?
Breast surgery is performed under general anesthetic in an accredited outpatient surgical facility and usually takes about 2 hours. One of the more frequent techniques utilized by Dr. Chernoff requires an incision under the lower portion of the areola (the darker area around your nipple). Other incisions sometimes utilized are under the lower portion of the breast or in the armpits. After the incision is made, a pocket is created beneath the chest wall muscle or in the breast tissue. The previously selected size and texture of the breast implant is securely positioned in the pocket and small stitches are used to close the incision.
Dr. Chernoff’s surgical technique keeps incisions to a minimum and are concealed within natural creases surrounding the breast.
Which Breast Implant Type is Right for Me?
Breast implants are regulated by the FDA and are medical devices that are implanted under the breast tissue or chest muscle to increase breast size (augmentation) or to replace breast tissue. There are many types of breast implants that offer patients a natural feel and results.
In the United States, there are are two types of breast implants approved for use in patients: saline-filled and silicone gel-filled. Both types have a silicone outer shell.
