How Is a Lip Lift Performed?
The procedure is performed under a light anesthetic at our outpatient surgery center. A surgical incision utilizing the laser diamond scalpel is made at the base of the nose.
The pink lip tissue is elevated and skin is removed at the junction of the upper lip skin and base of the nose. The pink lip is then rolled further outward toward the white lip. At the lateral edges of the lip, a small portion of tissue is usually removed from the white lip in order to give greater definition to the pink lip.
The incision is meticulously closed using extremely fine stitches, resulting in a scar that is barely noticeable. These stitches are typically removed within 5-7 days.
Once the stitches are removed, makeup can be applied as desired. While it may take several weeks for the scar to become nearly imperceptible at a normal conversational distance, the eventual outcome is a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing lip contour.

Are There Non-Surgical or Minimally Invasive Lip Augmentation Procedures?
At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery in Indianapolis, we advise our patients to first try injectable lip dermal fillers to augment and shape their lips to see if they are happy with the results. There are specific dermal fillers that are used to rejuvenate and enhance a patient’s lips.
Products such as Restylane Silk are FDA-approved to enhance lips by plumping up thin lips and smoothing wrinkles around the mouth. Also, Juvéderm XC and Juvéderm Volbella XC are used to enhance a patient’s lips. These products are smooth, soft dermal fillers that can be more precisely and evenly injected in the delicate lip tissue.
