Many Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery patients ask whether they should opt for a Mini-Facelift or a full deep plane facelift. It is important to understand the differences between the two options to make the best choice.
The goal of a full face and neck lift procedure is to restore cheek volume, remove fat on the neck, and smooth jowl lines. The procedure takes several hours, and patients typically get the sutures removed within 1 week. The primary benefits of the full rhytidectomy are its permanent results, as compared to other temporary treatments, such as injectable treatments.
A Mini-Facelift addresses excess skin and wrinkles in the mid-face area. Dr. Chernoff’s Mini-Facelift is an outpatient procedure performed under light sedation. Results of the Mini Facelift are permanent; however, skin and tissue will continue to age naturally. Most patients are happy with their results for over ten years, however, each person’s skin and tissue ages differently. Genetics, lifestyle, weigh gain, weight loss, overall health, and other factors such as regular maintenance treatments all play a part in how long patients will be happy with their results. Typically, a Mini-Facelift will cost less than a full deep plane facelift.
The advantages of a mini-facelift performed by Dr. Chernoff are:
- Subtle improvements in facial definition and shape
- Shorter recovery times than those associated with a traditional
- Face and Neck Lift Tighter skin with fewer wrinkles
Before recommending a Mini-Facelift, Dr. Chernoff works closely with each patient to ensure that their cosmetic goals are achieved in a subtle, natural-looking way throughout the course of treatment.
Who Is A Candidate For A Mini-Facelift?
Learn More: Read,
“Dr. Greg Chernoff’s Complete Guide to
Face & Neck Rejuvenation for Women and Men”
Candidates for a Mini-Facelift typically include men and women who aren’t ready for a deep plane facelift but are troubled by:
- Volume loss in their mid-face
- Slight sagging skin in the jawline
- Moderate wrinkling including vertical lines on the cheeks often called “accordion wrinkles”
- Moderate facial aging
Good candidates for a Mini-Facelift must have good skin elasticity, suppleness, and no hanging skin. The procedure targets the underlying muscular structures in your mid-face but does not extend to include the jawline or the neck.
Prospective patients must be a in good health and have realistic expectations about their treatment outcomes.
How Is A Mini-Facelift Performed?
Dr. Chernoff will perform a Minimal-Access Cranial Suspension (MACS) Facelift. This is also called a Mini-Facelift or Short Scar Facelift. The MACS technique is a slightly less invasive procedure with a smaller incision.
Dr. Chernoff performs his Mini-Facelift procedures in an outpatient surgical facility and patients are under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Small incisions are made along the hair margin above the ear. The subcutaneous layers and neck muscles are tightened and the excess skin is removed and tightened.
Preparing for Surgery
Prior to any surgical procedure, Dr. Chernoff recommends that all our patients read our “Patient Guide for Plastic Surgery”. The guide explains important points that all patients should think about as they are considering a surgical procedure.
What Is Recovery?
A Mini-Facelift involves less extensive incisions and recovery time is less than a traditional facelift. When you wake up from surgery, you will have a compression garment on your face and possibly your neck. This promotes optimal healing and recovery.
After your facial enhancement surgery, post-surgery instructions are given with specific details on addressing swelling and bruising and managing any discomfort.
Are There Non-Surgical or Minimally Invasive Facelift Procedures?
At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a variety of facial fillers that are used to non-surgically volumize your skin, as well as reduce and soften wrinkles and folds. These advanced dermal fillers are appropriate for patients who are interested in temporarily improving their facial appearance. Learn about a Liquid Facelift.
Facial renewal patients may benefit from a minimally invasive procedure called, Y Lift Instant Facelift. This procedure is a sub-muscular filler placement technique. The placement accentuates the cheekbone region, revives the under-eye area, and defines the jawline and upper neck instantly without making the face look puffy or filled. A Fat Transfer or Sculptra may also be an option to volumize your face.
Dr. Chernoff also offers a new advanced, minimally invasive cosmetic facial procedure that sculpts and refines your jawline and neck called Ellevate. He is specially trained on this innovative procedure that uses a suture suspension system to refine and smooth contours while supporting the underlying neck tissue. Dr. Chernoff will discuss with you if combining a Mini-Facelift with the Ellevate procedure will achieve your facial rejuvenation goals.
