When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you like what you see? For some of us, the answer is yes, and for others the answer is no. What determines if you like what you see in the mirror?
For many, it is how we look now as compared to how we looked when we were a few years younger. When we look into the mirror and we see that fine lines and wrinkles are affecting our faces, it can make us not like what we see.
And while there is nothing that we can do to completely stop the aging process or stop fine lines and wrinkles from occurring, there are certain steps we can take to minimize their effect. Some of these include using cosmetic treatments like BOTOX® and Dysport®.
Both BOTOX® and Dysport® are anti-wrinkle treatments. Both work by safely interfering with the signals that the nerves in the face send to muscles, causing them to contract.
A recent study was done to determine which one of these products works the best when it comes to smoothing out wrinkles around the eyes and temples.
Individuals who participated in the research project had Dysport® injected on one side of their face and BOTOX® injections on the other side.
Dysport® was shown to be better at removing crow’s feet and wrinkles. In the survey, participants were asked to contract their facial muscles as tightly as they could after receiving the treatment.
When they looked at the results, both the patients and the researchers preferred the side of the face that was treated with Dysport®.
Interestingly, neither the researchers nor the patients knew which side received which treatment when they were asked to select the side they preferred.
Researchers noted that more research is needed and more head-to-head studies must be done in order to see what the long-term results of comparing the effects of Dysport® and BOTOX® will be.
BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA for use for more than a decade while Dysport® received approval in the year 2009.
