Dr. Chernoff discusses Postoperative Care

Dr. Chernoff: Hello, I’m Dr. Gregg Chernoff and I’d like to talk to you today about an area of conversation that sometimes is not enough attention is paid to and that’s the post-op healing time and in particular the post-op care that a patient should receive because the majority of procedures that we do are cosmetic and elective I found that often patients are not as tolerant of the healing time as they would be let’s say if we were getting rid of a cancer for a patient. So, for the majority of patients no matter what I do for them from head to toe whether it’s a brow lift, eyelid lift, a rhinoplasty, a face lift, breast augmentation or liposuction. Your immediate healing time is typically seven to ten days that’s the period of time that you can expect to be out of commission particularly if you don’t want anyone that you’ve had the procedure done. It still takes a year sometimes two years though for all of the subtle swelling to dissipate and for facial surgery what you’ll notice just more shrink wrapping of your tissue around your bony jawline.

For breast surgery you’ll notice that implants will gradually fall into their pockets more for body liposuction you’ll notice more shrink wrapping of your tissue as the swelling dissipates. So, being, it’s hard to be patient particularly with elective surgery, in many instances it’s like buying a new care but having the car sit in the driveway for a year and just look at it without driving it. Remember your surgeon wants you to have great result as well, we’re on your side and that’s also why we see you back so much so within my office we typically we see you every day for the first week to ten days, once a week for a month and then once a month for a year and we’re always just a phone call away for our patients. So, the post-op care of you is just as important as your preoperative consultation, the easiest part of what I’m doing for you is what I do for you in surgery and our true challenge is to take good care of you. So, for more information visit us at drchernoff.com and once again you’re always welcome to come in for a complementary consultation.
