Are you considering lip enhancement with dermal fillers but are afraid of getting overfilled lips that look like duck lips? When many women hear the words, lip injections with facial fillers, they may imagine over-sized, fake-looking lips.
Yes, there are a number of women who have sub-optimal results, but this is often due to their injector’s choice of dermal filler, poor injection technique, and/or overfilling the lips. You don’t have to end up with the dreaded duck lips. Don’t let misinformation and stigma keep you from achieving your facial enhancement goal of that perfect pout. It all begins with the selection of the right cosmetic physician to do your injections!
Dr. Greg Chernoff, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon, is also a certified injection specialist with more than two decades of experience to help you look “Your Natural Best”. His practice philosophy is centered around being individualized and customized for each person’s specific skin and improvement goals.
Injectable dermal filler subtly plumps and enhances the natural shape of your lips. Dermal filler creates a more defined, full appearance and provides symmetry to unbalanced lips. At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a variety of safe and FDA-approved dermal fillers. There are specific fillers that are excellent for softening those fine lines around your mouth, adding volume to your lips and creating definition for your natural lip shape.
“Dr. Chernoff and his entire staff are incredible. Not only are they caring, supportive and professional they also provide services that far exceed any other MD I’ve ever been to. I’ve had surgical and non-surgical procedures done and love the results. I highly recommend Dr. Chernoff and staff.”

We are here to set the record straight for those who are concerned about getting lip injections and for those who are just looking for straightforward answers. Review the common misconceptions (myths) and learn the facts and truth behind lip filler.
MISCONCEPTION #1: LIP AUGMENTATION AND ENHANCEMENT LOOKS FAKE/ NOT NATURAL.
We have all seen the fake-looking, overfilled, and irregularly shaped lips on women, including many that are celebrities or social media influencers. However, the idea that lip filler can never look natural is completely false. The most common cause of those unnatural-looking, puffy pouts is mistaken technique, overfilling, and the selection of the wrong dermal filler. You can be reassured that lip injections at Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery are done correctly and our patients’ lips are not overfilled or puffy. The results are natural and create beautiful facial harmony and balance.
MISCONCEPTION #2: ANY TYPE OF DERMAL FILLER WILL WORK FOR THE LIPS
While there are many different filler options available to patients, not all fillers work well for a person’s lips. Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery offers all dermal filler options and they are carefully selected based on the patient’s desired results and consultation. A smooth, small molecule, such as Juvederm’s Voluma or the Belotero Balance hyaluronic acid filler are excellent options for softening those lip lines, adding volume and creating definition. Choosing a filler is an important discussion to have with your injection specialist after clearly explaining your goals for the results you would like to achieve.
MISCONCEPTION #3: INJECTING LIP FILLER WILL PERMANENTLY STRETCH YOUR LIPS
The skin on our lips is some of the thinnest skin on our bodies, so it may seem logical that, while increasing the size of your lips, the skin would thin out and stretch. This is false. Your body naturally absorbs filler over time, regardless of where the dermal filler is injected. Your lips should completely return to normal after the filler wears off.
MISCONCEPTION #4: YOU CAN GET LIP FILLER THE DAY BEFORE A BIG EVENT
Are you planning on getting your lips done the day before your wedding or some special event? Think again. Dermal fillers are very hydrophilic, which means that the filler draws in water, causing the lips to swell. Patients can experience swelling after their lip injection and the swelling can last 48 to 72 hours. Once the swelling subsides, there may also be bruising. To ensure the easiest recovery, follow your injector’s instructions and also ice your lips after your treatment. At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, we take every precaution to avoid bruising, however, you may have small bruises from the treatment. Be sure to leave enough time for your bruises to heal prior to any special engagement.
MISCONCEPTION #5: YOU SHOULD GET LIPS THAT LOOK LIKE THOSE OF YOUR FAVORITE CELEBRITY
Wanting your lips to look like Khloe Kardashian’s is quite a bit different than getting your hair cut to look like J.Lo’s curly new bob. While it’s always a good idea to be specific with your injection specialist about your goals, it’s also important to have reasonable expectations for the outcome. Lips are only capable of so much change, even with the help of some lip filler. The best results come from choosing an injection specialist who will work with your lip’s natural shape in ways that enhance and complement them.
