Varicose Vein Removal (Microphlebectomy)
Varicose veins are a common problem, especially for people whose occupations involve long periods of standing. Pregnancy is also known to aggravate the condition. By and large, heredity factors are also accepted as causes of varicose veins. Not only are varicose veins unsightly, they can also be extremely painful and can lead to more serious medical problems. Varicose veins can easily be removed under a procedure learned by Dr. Chernoff in Europe known as microphlebectomy. This is an outpatient procedure performed under a twilight anesthetic. If the problem is more extensive, patients can be operated on under general anesthetic. Incisions are made extremely small so virtually no scarring is left in the vein and all of its branches are skillfully removed. The legs are usually bandaged for one week, and patients are typically able to walk out of the surgery center immediately after surgery. Stitches are removed 7 to 10 days later. Removal of varicose veins not only eradicates pain and discomfort, many patients at last feel confident enough to bare their legs for the first time in years. Over a decade of experience helps us to treat even the most severe cases, and at your initial consultation we will show you photographs of past results to explain fully the most appropriate treatment to your condition. |
