Indianapolis Endoscopic Neck Lift

The endoscopic neck lift, or cervical lift, is a plastic surgery procedure which can restore a firmer, more youthful appearance to the neck area. During surgery, the platysma muscles, or the vertical muscle bands covering the neck, are repaired using a laser and tiny camera device. Similar to the “Lifestyle Lift”, the endoscopic neck lift involves small incisions made behind each ear, thus sparing patients the incisions made in front of the ear as with a traditional facelift. This allows for significantly less downtime, bruising and swelling.

Ideal candidates for the endoscopic neck lift include individuals with good skin elasticity who are bothered by mild to moderate jowling, neck banding and/or sagging neck skin. These conditions often represent relaxation of the facial muscles as well as a herniation of the platysma muscle. These patients typically do not require a full facelift; however, if there is moderate to severe sagging and neck banding, a full face and neck lift may be required to achieve the desired outcome.

Dr. Gregory Chernoff performs the endoscopic neck lift at our outpatient surgical center. General anesthesia is typically used, though other anesthetic options can be discussed during consultation with Dr. Chernoff. The surgery may take as little as one hour or as long as two hours depending on the specific patient’s needs. Dr. Chernoff begins the surgery by making a tiny incision behind the ear. He then repairs the platysma muscles utilizing a fine laser beam through a tiny television camera. Excess skin is removed through the incision behind the ear and the incisions are closed with very fine sutures.

The endoscopic neck lift involves minimal bruising, minimal swelling and a faster return to work for the patient. Patients can expect a recovery period of approximately five to ten days, though work and other normal activities can often be resumed after five to seven days. Stitches are removed after five to seven days and exercise can be resumed after one week.

At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery Center, we take every precaution to keep you safe and complication-free. With any surgery, however, there are risks and these will be explained in detail prior to your surgery.

It’s natural to feel some anxiety, whether it’s excitement for your anticipated new look or a bit of preoperative stress. Don’t be shy about discussing these feelings with us. We are here to help and support you through your procedure, healing, and years after your surgery.
